Steering wheel/column makes grinding/rubbing noise

What did you find wrong with your steering? I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 doing the same thing. I pulled, ignition switch, signal switch, airbag clock spring off of the steering column and it still does it. My steering has the tilt feature. It sounds like a bearing inside towards the top of the steering column?????

The tsb is for non-tilt steering wheels. Mine is a tilt and it doesn't have the screws that they talk about to replace. Does anybody know what the silencer is for at the end of the column? That is the only replaceble part I have found otherwise it looks like I would need to replace the steering column to get rid of the noise.

Solved?
Not to dig up an old thread, but this is the only thread I could find all day that match's what my truck is doing.
It almost acts as if it is low on steering fluid. But its full... It happened after I went mudding. Nothing horrendous..
Was there ever a solution to this yet? It has a slight popping/crackling/rubbing. Seems to be worse when braking / engine braking.
Any idea's??

I took it to the dealer and they told me it was the clock spring which goes in the steering wheel. They told me it would cost around $1000 to fix it, since it wasn't causing any driving issues and was just annoying I just left it alone. I did notice that it makes noises more in cold weather.
