Sheriff, there must be a huge echo in this thread....

 

its a huge rubber grommet beside the steering column, and its where the clutch rod goes through on a manual. just poke a hole in it with your pocket knife.
here's a pic.

 

On mine it's either a hard plastic or the rubber has dried out. I drilled a hole in it for my fogs and later back filled with some clear silicone to make it water proof.

 

i used a grommet that was about 3 inches in diameter for the power wires for my CB

 

Does any one know if this plug is on the 04 ram model. I need to run some wires for grill lights.

 

I pushed the grommet partially though, and have about half a dozen wires threaded through there. Then I sealed it back up with black silicon. Works like a charm!

 

ditto.....was plenty of room for my 0 guage wire for amps and other wire as well.

and you can splice into the power outlet a cig lighter or even car stereo wiring for this without cutting them?? why would you cut them?
is a very low amp draw lighting system so running to the battery is more work than needed....

 

+1 find you some thief taps and splice into the cigar lighter wires. I work at a communications shop and I've seen this done on literally hundreds of trucks with no problems whatsoever and the plug is still functional. you can use those wires for hands free kits, cell phone cradles, and even the remote line for your amp if your radio doesn't have one. I wouldn't advise hooking up a cb or a VHF/UHF radio to it though, it will work but you run a great risk of burning up some wires. oh and on our trucks the top one is switched ignition and the bottom one is constant.

 

+1 ^ same thing i did for my toggle for my foglights, just dont remember if you damage the grommet too much to seal it off with some RTV or gasket sealer so you dont get any cold air in and also keeps the inside quieter

 

sorry to bring up the thread. But what about if your equipt with the manual tranny? where then. I have so many wire going through the gap between the door and the hood..i need to redo em.
