Default 1999 Dodge Ram stereo

We own a Dodge Ram 2500 diesel. The original stereo was removed and replaced with a different brand. We now want to replace this stereo with an original. This stereo is difficult to find as there are stereo controls on the steering column. The wiring for the stereo is two seven wire plugs, one two wire plug (the remote) and a plug for the antenna. We have searched numerous auto wreckers and the local dealership has been unable to assist us. Is anyone familiar with this stereo and can you suggest a place to find it? Thankyou

My local salvage yard has a CD/Cassette Infinity player out of a 1997 Chrysler Town and Country that is supposed to be identical, equalizer and CD controls. They want $65 for it, it is listed as "Grade A" condition. I could take a look, if you want, and see if it has the plug for the steering wheel controls.

The harnesses for Chryslers and Jeeps are the same. A 1.5 DIN unit from a '90s Jeep will fit a Dodge and vice versa. If you want the steering wheel controls to work you need to find a head unit from a Dodge that had the Infinity option. This will usually be a unit with the AM/FM CD or AM/FM CD and Cassette. There are aftermarket systems that can be made to work with the factory steering wheel controls. I did this with my Sony head unit using an interface from PAC Audio.

A place you could always turn to is ebay! You can find damn near anything for anything on there! Just be careful of what you buy and who you buy it from!

In all honesty, why not put a base aftermarket deck in? For the price your gonna pay to get an OEM style deck, you can buy an aftermarket, harness, and practically everything else you need to make it work. IMO, you would have less headaches and problems.
Yes, I know that you have the steering wheel controls, but you can wire those in with the right components.

i agree. aftermarket sterios arent hard to navigate ether. My mom was hessitant but she loves her JVC i put in for her. (which btw the stock speakers in a 2003 dodge grandcaravan are great with an aftermarket head unit). You should check out crutchfield.com they are great. i just got two speakers and they sent, for free adaptor plates, hardware and wireing hernesses. not to mention tailor made instructions to my truck (not that i needed em). they have stering wheel control wires and stuff im sure. save some hassel and get an aftermarket.

P.S. parden my spelling.

Crutchfield is pretty high priced, so I would only expect them to have outstanding customer support to justify it.

As usual, person makes one post with an urgent problem and never comes back to check on the response. Noobs, what a waste of space.
