Is the pump leaking fluid?
Is the pump squealing?

Honestly, could be a lot of things. Might also be as simple as a steering box adjustment. Look in the DIY thread for a how to on that.

Sounds like your steering gear box is taking a dump. Either that or you have steering components that are rubbing for some reason. Could you possibly have bent steering components? Is your truck two or four wheel drive for starters considering they have different steering parts?

Yeah its a 4wd and I don't think i have bent anything unless it happened when we installed the leveling kit.

Check and make sure the steering stabilizer is not binding.

Hey Zman good call. I obviously wasn't thinking straight at 4 in the morning. That would be a perfect explanation of what is wrong with his truck. If that shaft is bent it would fight him going right but the gas in the shock would help to go left aiding in pushing the shaft back out. Nice call. I would put my money on that call for sure.

It isn't your pump because fluid only flows one way out of the pump and you don't have steering issues in both directions which would indicate a faulty pump. It sounds like the valving inside the steering box is damaged somehow. They aren't that expensive. I just did mine last weekend for 170 plus 125 core from advance. I got the core back an hour later when I was done installing it. Two lines, steering coupler bolt, pitman arm, and three bolts holding the box in. The only special tool you need is a pitman arm puller. Leave the pitman arm connected to the steering linkage and pull the arm off the box. I tightened the puller up good and tight and put just enough heat to the arm for it to pop free. remove the two lines and hang em up out of the way so they don't drip on you. pull the coupler bolt and use a prybar to pull the intermediate shaft off the spline. then take out the three bolts and drop it then go in reverse to put the new one in. FYI the new box already comes centered up for install. Just make sure your wheels are straight ahead when you start. Hope that helps.
