Default Harmonic balancer wobble

I am new to this forum but a frequent viewer to one of the other Dodge sites. I did a search but was unable to find the answer to an issue I just discovered with my 98 Ram 360. The harmonic balancer is wobbling and was probably screwed up during recent overhaul. I watched the mechanic pull it off during rebuild by grabbing the outside of the pulley with the puller but the crank bolt wasn't completely backed out. Everything is tight and the pulley runs straight an true but the dampner has a slight wobble.

Anyway, are these 360's enternally or externally balanced? Should I not run this truck until it is fixed? It's not too bad but noticeable. I found a replacement on Ebay and don't want to scew anything up more than it already is. Thanks and this site has been very helpful..

The 360 is externally balanced.

You will not have to have it balanced. Just get one for a 360.
It will have the correct weight distribution for your engine.

Thanks for the quick replies. Now I just need to find a replacement dampner. My ex-brother in-law was the suspect in damaging my dampner. I can't really bust him on it since he did do a great job on the rebuild for me. I'll just eat it and smile.. One last thing. I've noticed a lot of guys never post their results after getting some great advice on a lot of tough issues. I would like to see more follow through to avoid the anti climatic endings... Thanks again.

You gotta be careful when pulling the balancer. It is definately a PIA!!! I took parts from three different pullers together, turned the arms around backwards, dimpled my crank bolt, and pulled it from the inside of the pulley. Basically you just gotta make stuff work and never pull it from the outside.

Replace it. See if the noise is gone.

Hi I just bought a 95 3500 V10 with 110k. New to owning a dodge I do concrete for a living and wanted this as a work truck. Everything on the truck is awesome but it has a weird tapping sound. Almost like a stuck lifter...? But when investigating I noticed the harmonic balancer has a wobble to it. Do all my own work on our fleet but never with a dodge. Would this cause a weird noise to come? What’s it in tail on fixing? Is my crankshaft misaligned now?

this is my new to me one ton. I think it’s a hell of a truck for the $3500 I paid. Hopefully it doesn’t need a motor rebuild
