Ok so I have been fighting with this code on my 96 Ram 1500 RWAL. The code is #2 so I went to the FSM to diagnose it. Well the circuit from CAB Connector #1 to the RWAL is good. I don't know how to "check resistance of isolation valve" as the FSM says. I know my CAB is good as I tested it in my 97 which has a bad CAB.

Does that mean my RWAL Valve is bad even though it isn't listed as a culprit? Here are the pages from the FSM.




Can anyone help? I hate the lights being on.

 

From 8W-34-1: "Circuit B108 from cavity 8 of the CAB feeds the dump solenoid. The isolation solenoid is powered on circuit B101 from cavity 1 of the CAB. Circuit Z8 provides ground for both solenoids." So with an ohm meter measure the resistance between pins A and B on the 4 wire plug. 3-6 Ohms is pretty small so use a good meter.

 

I only got 1 ohms so looks like I need a new Valve, thanks man!

 

Hmm that's a difficult one... the code setting criteria is for an open connection, but 1 Ohm isn't open. Did you check the ground Z8 on the wiring side ?

 

Ground tested good, even though the Valve is case ground

 

Here is where im at replace the RWAL Valve and hope for the best (will be a junkyard part) or try to rebuild it

 

Came back from training and went to use the truck, dead battery. Charged it and went to start it and the starter wire was smoking. Replaced the battery terminals and it fixed both the over current and the ABS and BRAKE lights. That was 2 weeks ago!

 

Did find out, that the battery terminal wasn't making a good ground to the battery. Was one of them ones that you stick the bare end into and tighten a hex bolt down to hold the wire in. I'll see if I can find a picture
