Sure it is from the rear?
Does it have the stock posi in it?
Have you checked the shock bolts?

have you checked you universal. the stock ones have no grease nipples. they tend to clunk when you back up more than when you are going forward.

check to see if you have a lot of backlash in your rear gear, lift up the rear and turn tire back and forth and you can tell if there is excessive backlash by how much movement it takes to hear a clunk or move the other tire.. had a similar problem.. good luck with your issue

Like he said, check your u-joints. I had one that was clunking all the time and it turned out that the cap had a chunk out of it and the needle bearings washed out. That thing was flopping around free inside of the remainder.

odd. i'm typing in L I M I T E D S L I P and it thinks its a naughty word.

do you have a *****ed slip (LSD) rear diff? they're known to spit out pieces of the clutch pack retainer clip thingys. sometimes they fall to the bottom and don't do any damage, other times they go through the gears and do serious or catastrophic damage.
