2000 Ram V10 transmission question
Thank you all for your replies.
I'm definitely not looking for SRT 10 speed by any means, but I don't want to have it sluggish like a cummins (stock). I am going to check it out tonight and the guy at the dealership says he wants that thing sold. I'm hoping to get it for a great price (perhaps $7k OTD), does that sound right?
Also, if you all are interested, I can post my findings after the test drive. I won't if you all don't want the clutter.

OK that sounds good, will do buddy.
I'll chime in and let you all know what happens.
OK here's how it went last night.
The truck drove well. Very smooth, although the shifts felt a little delayed at first, but once it warmed up it felt like a normal automatic. Engine was very quiet and responsive.
I was hoping they would let me borrow the vehicle overnight so I may take it to my mechanic today, but they didn't feel comfortable doing so. That kinda turned me off due to the fact that there was a Dodge dealership that let me take a truck overnight, and I didn't end up buying it in the end.
Let me ask this question.
Say you had a head to head race with the V10 and a 5.9 V8. How would that race end up in the end?
I'm not asking that because I want to race, I'm just trying to gauge the acceleration of the truck (cuz my butt dyno isn't that accurate).

WTF! i have tried and tried to brake torque mine and it won't do it and that was after i put the headers and the new plugs/wires on.. i have raced another ram with the 5.7 and i had him for about 5 secs then i watched him fade off into the sunset he was in a 3rd gen ram.

Did you watch my video? I have a posi rear end. You would not be able to do what I did in that video with a V8. The V10 is a monster. There is no replacement for displacement. V8=318 or 360ci. V10=488ci. No comparison.
Most cities have mobile mechanic services that will go to a dealer or private party vehicle for a checkout. About $100 and well worth it. I don't know any dealer that lets people take vehicles home overnight to do such a check, but taking it somewhere during business hours seems a reasonable request.

I appreciate the input. I've had a Dodge dealership and Kia dealership let me borrow the car overnight, but I understand where you are coming from.
OH well, they never called me back in order to have them meet me at the mechanic, so in the end, I'm not going to get that one after all.
BTW, what does "brake torque" mean Mr. Ruckuss?
