mine is mounted right underneath the middle seat, I just took the mounting bracket and used some long self tappers to get through the floorboards. Its a pain to adjust, but it works just fine, and i can hear it with no problem, even with the radio turned up!

Mine is a Wilson 1000 Magnetic mount and I have it on the roof. I think they look best on the roof.

I had mine mounted on my tool box I built the bracket from 1/4" aluminum because I kept breaking them flemsy store bought ones and I used a standard ball mount and a FireStikII but then traded for a 102" whip but I couldent get any of it to tune right so I pulled it all out

Could you transmit and recive with your antenna mounted to the toolbox? I had my antenna's mounted to the box in my old pickup for awhile, and nobody could hear me. Running a ground wire from your bracket to the frame of the truck should cure any problems

It transmittied and recieved fine I just couldent get my SWR down to a level that I found acceptable and I got up to 3 ground straps grounded to the frame and body and it diddent help much so I just yanked it all out, But I had the exact same setup on 2 other trucks(84 Chevy C-10 & 87 Ranger) and they were hitting right at 1 on the SWR and transmitted and recieved perfect they had the same kind of 18' Aries Coax and the 5' Firestik but I couldent figure out the problem and I really dont use my cb much so I pulled it and stuck it back in the closet

I think the problem may be how low the bracket is on the toolbox. I use essentially the same mount but it is mounted as high as I could get it on the box, so the base is level with the top of the lid and the spring is above it. With an 8' whip it works great. When you have the base and the spring mounted low or right next to other metal it adds a lot of capacitance and makes it hard to tune.

I finally mounted my 102 inch whip on the toolbox, it works great.

It cant be that it was mounted to low, mine is mounted lower than that and it works really well, I think it may be a grounding problem. Firestiks are made different and have a ground built right into them

I will upload pics later, but I have a cobra 29NWST mounted just below the ashtray and a state fire radio mounted on the bottom of that. It is a really close fit when I go to shift into 4L, but it work out really well....just make sure if you do it you use all at least 4 self tapping screws to secure it (found that out the hard way). I have a k40 antenna mounted on a spring bolted to the front of the bed up against the driver side bedrail, and my state fire whip on a custom mount on the driverside front fender panel under the hood. You can mount under the seat but I wouldn't recommend that because you could possibly overheat your cb if you allow it to sit on the floor! There are a lot of places to mount, and it all depends on what CB you have! Unless you know a lot about CBs, I would just get a small RadioShack radio that is very easy to use, and get a K40 or a Firestick antenna. Just a few suggestions!
