How to tell the difference between a 5.2 and a 5.9
ok so if all is right about the vin an the radiator fan deal then i got a F'n 5.2l an me not knowing things everyone has lied to me when i got the truck corect me if im worng? they said i have a 5.9 an im going off of what yall say than that means i got a 5.2 ? my vin in the 8th place is a Y . my by the radiator it says 5.2l so am i any less of a ram ? do i still have ballz lol. the plans for the truck with lift an tires will i have enough power lol
I have a question about the VIN. I know Z and 5 are for.
Z is the LD 5.9, and 5 is for the HD 5.9. Was the HD only used in the 3500s? Cause I got the build sheet for my truck and it lists "Heavy duty service group", but I got a vin Z.

Just messin with ya dude, the 318 is a fine motor. You got a good truck there, enjoy it and clean that motor!
My truck originally had a 5.9 in it and all the stickers support that but the guy i bought it from put a 5.2 in it because the 5.9 had rods blow through it. Hard to tell. I thought i had a 5.9 for the longest time before a talked to him about it. At first i was a little pissed about it but have since heard people seem to like the 5.2 more because it is close to the same power levels and the mileage is better. There are a few guys at work that have had a few of both and they seem to favor the 5.2. No idea why.

Besides the vin and the rad sticker, there's a sticker on the door too called the Safety Cert. label. Shows a bunch of info.
If you don't have the stock engine, then it's a bunch of minor differences since the 318 and 360 are so alike. The engine ID is right by the left motor mount.
