Question How to tell the difference between a 5.2 and a 5.9

simply i have been trying to find the difference between the 2 .
How can u tell the difference between the 5.2 and the 5.9 engines ?
Is their a visual difference ?
I did search the forum so dont say i didnt dont need no SH*t.

Yes, the 5.2 has the PCV on the passenger side and the 5.9 has it on the drivers side. There may be more, that's just off the top of my head.

no you can't trust the pcv. it moves around in different years.
i'm assuming he wants to know so he can tell the difference in a junkyard.
i don't know.

fwiw, as far as original equipment, about the 8th pos of VIN has a Y(5.2) or Z(5.9)

Why are you always so angry? How are you so sure that he's not trying to find out information on another Ram's engine?

Anyways, One way you can tell from the outside is on the VIN number. There will be one posted somewhere that you can see from the windshield. On the 8th digit, It will be a Y, Z or 5. Y is 5.2, Z and 5 is for 5.9. Of course, there are other letters and numbers for the other kinds of engines that Rams have.

lol yup that will do that. and my 97 has the 5.9 and my pcv is on the passenger side so that just depends on the year. +1 on the vin check
