Default 318 coverted to 360?

hi evryone

i have a 1999 dodge 1500 with the 318 in it and i have had two motor go out of it in less than a year first one my cat was plugged and screwed the heads and the second one my sister stole my truck without asking and rad hose fell off and she over heated it hard core.

so my question is can i get a 360 from a 2nd gen and put it in my truck and have evrything hook up or would or would i have to change all the wireing and computer. the reason i want to put a 360 in is id like a bit more power and i plan on building this motor up a little like cam and head work ect nothing too extream.

so any help would be much appreciated
thanks

I honestly have no experience, but I imagine it would. The ECMs for the 5.2 can control the 5.9 and the intake should bolt right up. Check out what injectors you need too.

It sounds too easy to be true but in theory, it should work.

From what I understand the sensors interchange. Also, while I've heard that the 360 will run off of a 318 PCM I've also heard that it is recommended to get the 360 computer.

Yes, everything will line up and it will work. The only difference between the two is the bottom end- that's it. All the other stuff bolts right in- no mods. Everything off the 318 will bolt right on w/o issue.

No.

the intake form the 318 and 360 have a different number of vacume inlets on the passenger side. And all the accessories and brackest that bolt on to the motor different. My truck came with the 318 but I bought a complete (almost) 360 to start with for my build. I used the 360 intake not knowing there was a difference. but he 318 uses one more vacume hose. So we had to merge the two together to make it work but no big deal. I will poke a round the garage latter on an take a closer look and let you know what I find.

The 318 computer will work, but not the best. A 360's computer would work the best.

Make sure its from the same model year or very close, 1996-2002. Earlier, and the wiring won't be right, and you'd have to use the injectors from your old engine (they changed them in 1996).

Yeah, all you have to do is just simply swap all the top end stuff- (minus heads of course) and it will work. THat's all you have to do. Your going to just use the block from the larger motor with all your 318 parts such as your intake, TB etc. I would get a larger TB plate size though for that.

I am looking to do this down the road this fall in fact. I am going to get a block from the junkyard for 150 bucks or so, have it checked out. Once I know it's in good condition, and after I have done all the mods, all my 318 parts will install onto that 360 block. Drop it in and your ready to go.

NOTE: You will need to get the computer for it though.
There are differences and, get the same year computer of your truck to make it easier. THe harness is the same so, there's nothing to worry about when connecting it but, just be sure to match the year of the computer to the year of the truck.
