This entire Green Crap is just that "Crap". California has gone nuts. We have the biggest collection of weirdos and tree hugging lunatics living here. I don't care how clean this state is, it will be counter balanced by the rest of the world. You could have every person in California driving an electric car and not eating beans so they don't fart, and China is spewing out tons of CO2, literally. One thing of to have clean air, we passed that threshold and stepped into the realm of lunacy many years ago. Do you believe that even lawn mowers have emissions controls on them? I agree with many others who believe that this is not about being green so much as about the Government having more and more control over your life.

kev2 both cat inefficiency code and xyz readings higher then CA would like but in ok range i guess the Pentium put a little oil into the exhaust :-) putting off replacing may have led to it too, working on trucks at work all day makes it a little hard to to start working on my truck for free.

cmckenna I will need to look into this.. although with a commercial drivers license i have had some CHP want-to-be's crawl under my truck or they say i am over loading my truck. blah blah i just tell them to call the commercial DOT cop out and that shuts them down fast because the DOT cop has higher jurisdiction then that peon CHP in the cars they are all dicks. can you tell how much i like the CHP :-)

It is good to see others think like i do this whole going green BS is a marketing campaign slogan all it is for and all it will do is make parts and cars cost more. Ram15002ndGen took the words out of my mouth until the big heads is Sacramento build a big a$$ dome over California all this green crap wont do diddly (Because big heads the wind blows)

guys i could go all day i work in construction, working for a small business, logging and i drive truck i could tell you all a thing or too million things about the great state of California.

Wow, this is funny. I live in the bay area too (S.F.) and I have a lot of family who are Chippie's. As a matter of fact, 1 of my family members is a chippie at the Hayward CHP. I can understand your, or anyones frustration with cops in general. But all in all, there not that bad a people.

As for your Cat situation, at the end of the day, your just gonna have to bite the bullet and get a CARB cat. Yes, they do a visual inspection to see if you have all the appropriate stickers under the hood. So when they find out you have a CARB truck, and the results of you smog comes in with failing results from the out of state Cat, it's back to the drawing board.

Ultimately, everything in life, including this, comes down to TIME and MONEY. Which one do you have more of? Best of luck. I hope you find your answer. I spent 4 months not driving my truck because I had a clogged cat and it was the year that I had to take it to a test only in order to get my stickers. After months on the internet searching, I found it for $280 dollars. Sucks, but you do what you gotta do.

By the way, you don't know how many times I've been stuck in traffic in SF on a critical mass day where I've just wanted to run over all those tree huggin hippie's. Damn SF lib's.

^^ You're a better man than me, I know I would run them over. My wife keeps asking about going to SF to visit fisherman's wharf and all this stuff she remember from a visit there when she was a kid. I have been emphatically dodging that bullet for years. I always come up with something else to do. I'm surprised you haven't registered your truck in Oregon considering you are only a couple of hours away. Set up a mail forwarding up there and you're set.

It will pass just fine with a non CARB cat, guaranteed. If they decide to closely inspect the cat for a CARB# then it would fail, sniffer wise it should pass no problem.

I replaced both stock cats on my B2 with a single aftermarket cat that was $50. The HC emissions went from 130PPM to 55PPM cruising.

Yep, just go up there, register your vehicle up there and have the mail sent to you here. If you have any relatives up there you can use their address. Of coarse that works for any state, doesn't have to be Oregon.

While I'm stuck in traffic, I fantasize knocking it over like bowling pins. I reality, They'd have my head on a platter in court. Actually, the D.A. is VERY lenient and RARELY prosecutes anything...something to think about.

What I like to do is, while I'm in traffic, I put it in neutral and rev the HELL out of my rig. That way the bicyclist have something to suck on...my lovely exhaust fumes. I only wish I had a diesel to do it with!!!
