Tools for Manual Transmission 96
I have a 96 ram 1500 with a manual transmission what are size of tools that I would need to service it. It has way to much fluid in it and it is coming out of the top of it. I would like to fix this problem at a low cost to me. Do you have any ideas that would help me to get this job done at low cost.
The drain and fill plugs are 17mm allen. I found a big 17mm allen wrench at Napa for mine. I prefer to fill mine through the shifter hole, sounds like you need to take the shifter off and re seal it anyways because I doubt it's overfilled. Mine is overfilled and doesn't leak.
My napa didn't have the wrench. So I found a bolt head that fit into the plug, cross tightened two nuts on it, stuck it in my ratchet and voila! Instant tool. Make sure you get the Mopar oil for it. It should take 1 and a half quarts roughly. I just fill til it runs out. I agree with the leak however, as it shouldn't. But there is a weep/vent hole on top somewhere because I've noticed it wet sometimes.
Well I have 3 quarts already because of some friends of mine help me replace the clutch. so they add a little bit through the top of the shifter. I will look into the seal this morning and go head and replace the seal on the shifter & while I am doing that I will also pick up the 17mm allen wrench from sears. I like having tools that have a life time warranty because I tend to brake them sometimes.
Thank you for all your help on this.
