Default Downshifting Question

I drove a 00 Ram the other day that Im looking into buying. 360 auto. When I gave it gas, and it downshifted, it was pretty smooth. In my 97 F-150 I used to have you could definately feel it kickdown. Is it normal for the Dodge tranny to be smooth??

Also, when I go to start it cold, you have to let it turn over a few times, let go of the key, then turn it over again to start. Only when cold... What could be the problem? The owner said he has taken it to the dealer for it and they said they cant find anything wrong... Could it just need a tune up?

Thanks

It will probably be fairly smooth. It's all what you consider smooth though.
Maybe. Or a fuel issue. Or something more severe.

He said its been doing it for awhile and hasnt gotten worse. Doesnt recall changing plugs/wires in the ~5 years he had it. Dealer did all the work...which I hear thats not a good idea. I will be giving it a tune up.

The starting issue sounds like the fuel system might be losing pressure over time. May need a new fuel pump sooner rather than later.

you could try priming the fuel system before you start it.

I had a simliar symptom to you at start up. My coil was bad. $35 part and 15 minutes to replace and it starts within 2 seconds now.

Well, When i replaced mine it only took like 3 minutes... Taking out two screws and unpluging the coil wire and connecter are extremly easy. Very simple. If you can wash a car, you can replace a coil.

Its easy, But you need an OHM meter or you can use an old spark plug........Try

Oh yea, dont get a duralast part. Go to advance auto and get a BWD coil.

you know trying to prime you fuel system is something you should try before you go spending money where you don't have to. all you have to do is keep turning your key on and off till your fuel pump stops making any noise when you turn the key on then try starting it. if it fires right up then i would not worry about the coil.
