Hey guys..just got my 2001 1500 Sport last night. Got it for a pretty good price, so am happy cept for the rust on the doors :-( But i knew it had that..so...


Anyways, it has power locks, and only one key. No FOB for the doors. Owner says it never had that option (he is second owner).

Could that be correct? Or is it more likely someone lost it, and in that case, can i get another one somewhere?

The rear bumper on this truck is chrome, and very rusty. Not sure why it would have that bumper, as its not stock (right?) Wondering what options i have with fixing that?

I bought my truck used and it came with one black key with a ram on it and the second key was silver. It looks like the second key was made for a spare because it has no dodge or ram markings on it. If you want to same key as the original with the ram marking on it check ebay because they sell blank keys that will look the same as stock.

You can get keys made at lowes or i've heard some walmarts offer key making. Also, i know a few local hardware stores in my area that make keys so you might wanna check your local hardware stores out too.

The best way to fix your rear bumper is by replacing it. If you have a sport you should get a paintable bumper and paint it the same color as your truck.

Keyless entry..is that standard on these things? Or how do i find out if mine should have it?

 

its an option, i believe its available on the sport and slt models.
if you get a carfax or a build sheet from dodge then it will say whether or not your truck is wired for it.
mine was supposed to have it but it didn't have any key fobs so i got one off ebay (15$) and had the dealer program it to the truck.

 

If it's not installed on your truck, just buy a half way decent alarm system. Most of them nowadays tie into your power locks and lock the doors upon setting the alarm. Then thay unlock with the dis-arm button. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

 

Hmm..i never did a carfax on this one. I wonder if there is a charge to get the build sheet?

Is there another way to see if it has keyless?

i got my build sheet from dodge's web site. it was free and it only took a couple days to get it through email.

 

Buy a new rear bumper and all the rust will be gone.
