IIRC you need to put the HP hose in fluid, and the return hose in empty container. And make sure you spin the pulley in the correct direction. And keep filling the pump with fresh fluid.

Now that I think of it, the return line also needs to be blocked off. I can't find out for sure until I'm home in a couple hours, if I'm feeling up to it.

heated it up, put the pitman arm puller on put preser on it, hit the arm with a hammer up, down, left and right, heated it up again, put more pressure on it, and repeat about 15 times, and finally it broke loose. im blleding the power steering now and will see how the new gear feels later today

uuhhhhhh......i started the truck up after i was all done, and there is this fast viabrating/sucking air sound that happens randomly on and off...sounds like its coming somewhere around the right(facing the engine) valve cover, kinda sounds like when you get to the bottom of a milkshake sucking though a straw.

also, i revved the truck up a little bit, and it almost died....allt he lights went dim and the engine just about died....wats goin on here...

make sure you filled your power steering pump back up, after you started it, because it has to go through the pump, the gear, and cooler, one mine anyways.

To bleed the system, jack the front end off the ground so that there is no load on the the front wheels. Slowly turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock repeatedly until it turns quietly.

Didn't the new steering unit come with directions? Things can be damaged if you don't do it right.

I suggest you get at least a haynes manual, which I know has that info in it. Read all the directions how do to some thing before you start, then just go back for reference when the work is being done. If the manual is just used for quick reference without reading the whole article on the job, you'll tend to skip over and miss important stuff.

yea it came with instructions, but i follwed the instructions, and i flushed it out and followed the bleeding instructions..i had someone make sure the right amount of fluid was int he pump all times..and i was turning the wheel left to right and there wer airbubbles coming up in the pump..i did this about 25x. that was with the truck off and the cap off the pump. thenit said to do it with the truck running wich i did earlier. but its still has a loud noise whenever i turn left or right...and its quite hot.
