285/75/16 with a 3.55 Gear
As the title states, anyone in here with size 285/75/16 tires with stock 3.55 gears in the axles, how does the truck run? Sluggish pickup? Can I get away with it?
I have no idea what my gearing is. Mines a 2WD with stock gearing. But I run 285/75/R16 on mine. Eh, its a little more sluggish, but nothing to seriously be upset over. Rides decent compared to my 265's I used to have. What should the gearing be with these size tires and only occasional towing?
Sluggish, slouchy, poochy, doggy, no get up and go out of the hole.
All these adjectives and more describe my truck with 3:55s and 285s.
You can get away with it, as long as you can accept the loss.
The few engine bolt ons I added didn't help much.
Perhaps a tuner might, if it removes torque limiting.
Gears surely will.

im running 285 with 3.55 not much difference over my 265 i really cant tell. still plenty of power. obviously upgrade gears would be the best option, but not necessary. i tow occasionally and everything pulls just fine. the most common upgrade is 4.11 or 4.56 if you plan on ever going to an even larger tire like 315/ or 35" tires. the largest you can fit i believe in the Chrysler 9.25 axle is 4.88. 4.11 are what i would/will be eventually upgrading to, and with 285 75 16 its best for towing torque and mileage
i have that. its a little sluggish, but an acceptable price for the bigger tires.
its important to have a fixed plenum, and a superchips helps a lot.
the superchips also fixed a shifting problem with OD and TC Lock (too early) and it corrects the speedometer.
you can get one for $200-250.
edit. $240 here, brand new...

4.10's are better, but be prepared for a big price (1000-2000) on a 4wd, since you have to change both axles.
