HELP! ball joints
I am trying to replace ball joints (upper and lower) on a 1999 dodge 1500 4wd. issue is I cant get the lower to relese from the knuckle so i can get to it with the ball joint press. I have the hub, shaft, and tie rod end out...upper is free but lower wont go. i tried to press it out to no avail...I already distroyed one pickle fork too! Is there some miracle tool or procedure that might help? i need help now as my truck is curbside half taken apart at the moment!
Have you been using some quality penetrating oil? It's just rusted on the stud obviously but, it sounds like you just need a BFH and some patience. Heat will help too if you have access to a torch.
heat and cold together. if you can't find some crc freeze off then grab a can of canned air.
heat the knuckle and freeze the ball joint then immediately hit the ball joint with the hammer. if you have to use canned air then you will have to have the can upside down for it to actually freeze the ball joint.
you can get a propane torch at k mart or walmart pretty cheap also. i'm talking about the kind that goes on the end of one of those little bottles of propane.
