Default drink holder...

one of the halves of my drink holder broke today. I was thinking of just going to a junkyard and finding a replacement, but figured I would ask if there are any aftermarket replacements, and if so, are they stronger or worth getting over the standard one I'd find in a yard. (seems like there's aftermarket stuff for just about everything else-so figured I'd ask)

OEM stock replacements are to be found all over Ebay.

Not really anything that is a true upgrade. I know that there is a maker that has a holder that clips onto the console, but that's about it. Oh, you could also make a holder/CB mount out of MDF and have it mount in the floor board. I think Iwhine did this not too long ago.

Are the 97 cup holders different than 01's? I think they are but not sure. If they are like the 01 ones though they are the best thing about the Ram haha. Okay maybe not but one of the few things I do really like.

1994-97 are different than 1998-01. The cup holders were part of the redesign in '98.

the 97's cup holder are up high above the radio.

did the bottom of it break out? mine did the same thing, but i found its alot more effective because large cups sit lower and dont spill or fall with every turn. but if it broke in a different way it might need to be replaced.

personally i hate the original designs of these cupholders. very ineffective.

yeah, it was the bottom that broke out of one of the sides.
I figured there were replacements available, I just wondered if any were better than any others.

I'll have to think about your point of leaving it because larger drinks will sit lower and more stable...

they are much more stable, most fast food cups, that have large cups like 32 or 40 oz, will almost be locked in and dont really have to worry about any spillage. and cups from home and coffee mugs will sit lower to, as long as they go from small on bottom to larger on top you should have any problem. and no one really know the difference but you.

Back when I had my '98 Ram I thought the cupholder was amazing lol. Then with my '97 I was like damn these suck cause they were changed in '98 along with a different dash and minor other little things, but yeah mine cracked as well I took it apart and actually glued the hairline crack where it split and now its fine. To be honest even though I fixed it it still sucks they never quite hold the cup snug. Check this out been seeing this for awhile now:
