Default Radio while truck is off

A friend of a friend today in his Focus has his headunit hooked up with a switch so it would run while the car was off. He said something about running the switch to a ground, hooking up the power and the accessory to a switch or something, I can't remember.

Any ideas on how to hook this up? I picked up a switch and it has a ground, load and supply.

You can also run a new switch wire going from the head unit to the battery with a $3.00 inline fuse kit in the middle. Add a rocker switch and you are good to go.

I'm not sure why you would want to do this to your ram as turning the key back to acc will accomplish the same thing with out all the headaches in the process.

Viable point, sir, but if you are honestly in a place of revenue or operation that you have to worry about crap like that; would you really in all truthfulness want to have the door to your truck open and the radio blastin?

my friend had his keys stolen out of his jeep that was in his driveway and he didn't even have his stereo on. it only takes someone walking by 2 seconds to steal your keys. some punk kid might just do it for kicks. why take the chance?

It only takes a moron to leave his keys in his vehicle and not be close enough to prevent someone from stealing it. I assume that anyone that wants his radio to be on plans on remaining pretty damn close to it to listen to it.

Why leave the keys in your vehicle unattended anyways? Its just begging to stolen.

But I'm not here to fight. I'm here to offer an idea. Instead of flicking a switch, what I want to see is the radio stay on even after I turn the truck off until I open a door.

Thank you both! I pretty well gave up arguing with him because I figure there is no way he would accept the other side of the argument.
