I set mine up with only one cat, why did he have to use two?

I'm not sure I'm hoping he gets back on here to answer it better than I can.

JBA make alot of their headers for other brands. I have JBA shorties and they are excellent in the low-mid range power,

Yes they are not a bolt and go. You need to redo the y pipe.

I'm running summit "shorty" headers on my '95 Dakota. They are made by pacesetter, they are a direct fit, and they come with all the hardware you need. I noticed more of a low-mid range power increase than I did upper end. You'll notice an upper end power increase with more intake flow. The finish on them is junk, and is mostly burned off mine, but for the price they are worth it. I wrapped mine to help keep the heat out... which helped drop the heat coming off of them about 200* according to an optical thermometer.

When you go to longtubes the y-pipe wraps around behind the transfer case instead of the
engine block. This pushes your cat rear ward and also gives less room for the cat and
muffler before the tailpipe arcs upward to clear the rear axle. Basically you end up having
to replace all the piping, cat, muffler, and go with either an O2 simm or supposedly you can
get O2 harness extension. It is highly unadvisable to extend the wiring yourself.

anyone out there know the hp difference with putting shorties vs long headers? I am curious to justice which direction I would go.

Stock: 230 hp (right?)
w/ shorties: ?? hp
w/ long: ?? hp

oh and this would be for the 5.9L engine.
