Default My truck ate a brake rotor

Over the past few days I've noticed a grining vibration and noise when I depress the brake pedel. On closer examination, the inside of the front passenger brake rotor is heavily eroded and scored. The brakes also showed some whisps of smoke after a short trip. Now, I know the obvious needs to be replaced: i.e. rotor and pads, but what needs to be replaced to prevent this from happening again? Do I need a new wheel cylinder or whole new caliper?

Please and thankyou

it sounds like your caliper could be sticking. I'd rebuild it just for safe measure.

if the caliper cannot be compressed you will have to replace it. i had the same problem with my alreo if the caliper compresses then all you need is the pads and rotors

I went ahead and bought a new caliper and rotor. The metal of the wheel cylinders had chunks missing and the old pad was shredded beyond recognition. I forgot to pick up new pads, but when I take the old caliper back to get my core charge, I can put it towards pads.

i have the same problem on my 95 but i can push the piston back in the caliper no problem. i replaced the flexlines when i got the truck because the wheels would lock up, now it just eats brakes quick, think i might just get new calipers i bought it a new set of summit cross drilled rotors( worst mistake ever) because the cheap finish rusted off and now im braking on a completly rusted surface.

Mission accomplished! New caliper and rotor on the problem wheel and new pads on both front brakes. She stops as smooth silk!...$130 later...not too bad I suppose.
