Default Is there a cabin air filter???

Whenever I turn my heater fan on, a fine gritty dust flies out of the vents. I'm thinking that the cabin air filter has deteriated and fine particles are blown through the venting system and out into the cab. Most of it seems to end up on my dash and it's hard to keep it clean, not to mention breathing this stuff in. Is there a cabin air filter in the truck that can be easily changed? Any help would be appreciated

John

BTW, it's a 1999 Dodge Ram Sport model

Probably dirt and grime buildup in the A/C box which is holding the moisture that hasn't all drained out.

No replaceable cabin filter. Some models have a permenant foam and grid filter at the intake behind the glove box. It may be deteriorated or the dirt is getting in from the outside through the cowl.
Musty smells eminate from the evaporator coil as dust builds up on it and is held there by condensation. This in turn collects mold/mildew and hence the odor. If you pull the blower down and use a pump-up tank sprayer with a/c coil cleaner, you can reasonably get up in there and sanitize the evap. coil. It may take a few treatments and thereafter should be done a couple of times per year. You can also place an air freshener in the glove box to help the odor situation. However, this simply masks the problem; the mold grows on.

You can buy that stuff at any place that sells A/C maintenance material, or even your local home improvement store.

I Have a 1999 Dodge Ram Van B1500 that I have been working on I've been trying to find anything on a cabin filter in it with no results besides checking behind the glove box which I will do next but I did find a foam strip surrounding the vents when I took them off to clean. They were deteriorating and moldy so you might want to check behind each vent cover and get rid of all of that or try to clean them with some kind of product that stops mold. But I would just get them out of there if they are nasty. If I find anything like a possible cabin filter I will post it here.

No filter on a '99 Ram van unless it's a conversion and one was add. Keep in mind this thread is 19, going on 20 years old.
