Question Exhaust ideas

So i'm in need of new exhaust...cause mine is rotting away. My truck is a 98 reg cab, short box, 5.2L. I got a quote from a local mechanic who specializes in exhaust for dual exhaust from my manifolds-back...$800. that includes 2 new cats, 2 new muff's, and all the custom bent piping. but i think i'd rather do it myself and buy a kit from the internet and have the satisfaction of installing it myself. so what i wanna know is from you guys who know more about exhaust than i do...is should i get 1 new cat and a cat-back dual package..or true duals? bassically what im looking for is more snap on the throttle and good back-pressure cause my truck is a ***** in the low RPM range. and of course i want the sound too

sorry about the novel i just wrote...but giving details means getting details right?

catback for sure...and that 5.2 actually works better with the single pipe setup. do a highflow cat (if at all) and then the muffler depends on how you want it to sound.

rumble...pop...loud...low...clean but tough...obnoxious

no matter what...$800...IS WAY WAY WAY TOO MUCH!!!

pypes makes a nice sounding kit. one guy bought one and installed it then put up a video but i can't find his thread. the search isn't working right. i believe he got the street pro muffler.
magnaflow has the universal catalytic converters on summitracing.com for about 75$.
gibson also makes a complete kit that sounds good.
