Yeah, the only thing I would be worried about is the rock you'd kick up on the highway and breaking the person behind me's windshield. Especially if you have some heavy tread.
In Washington it is illegal to have more than 1" of tire sticking out beyond the fenders (I've only been charged once for that {knock on wood}) and you have to have mud flaps (or equivalent) that must cover down to minimun centerline of the axle. So if you are ever in Washington, I would not bring your dovetailed truck (except on a flat bed)!

i have never been pulled over for my tires, even when i had the 11.5 wide rubber on it, and them damn things could kick up some dirt, id leave an irrigation lane and be spewing twin 30 or so foot rooster tails of mud....
Various state legalities aside. Its alot of work to do something that. To me, it would be a toss up. Either get a bed and do the dovetail then install it, or just delete the bed, and fab up something of my own.

if they see that you have big tires and decide to tailgate then they get what they deserve. you wouldn't tailgate a dump truck on a road that has gravel driveways on it because you know that he's gonna throw some rocks, its the same thing following a mud truck.
Looks ok I guess but kills the bed so why? I bought my truck to haul stuff so that would defeat the purpose of the truck
Well, he definitely didn't build his truck to haul stuff. If that was the case, I'm sure he wouldn't have done it. I guess it helps for wheeling by allowing more clearance from obstacles and such. I have seen the front done like this as well for the very same reason (although much more work is involved).
