Default winter rebuild

Okay guys so I'm putting some plans together for a rebuild/upgrade on my 01 318. I just want to go through and replace the rings oil pump etc, I also wanted to add a new camshaft and swap some 360 heads on. I need help figuring out what parts I need I would also like to do a little work to the heads. I've got about 6-700 dollars to put into this so far.

Really? seems like a stock motor would hold up just fine to a mild cam? ( I love the way v8's sound with a cam)

try talking to squirrels about the cam. He as a cam in his ram, but his heads are different. Our blocks are fine for a cam, as long as yours is in good shape and isnt compromised, you can put a cam in. Its all how much work you wanna do.

well hopefully I don't need to replace anything other than rings oil pump and the usual stuff but i know someone who does machining so everything will be checked for specs while its apart. I am hoping that by doing this before something goes wrong i may need to replace less parts.

I agree with Last. Buying a cam for the "sound", isn't really away to shop for one. Bear in mind, to get that good deep "lope", its probably gonna cost you more than a cam(i.e. valvetrain, heads, or machine work for heads). Also, think hard about how you drive your truck. What rpm range? What lift/seperation is gtonna get you what you want in the rpm your looking for. Basically do a little homework before doing it. I have read and been told that our engines respond quite nicely to am RV style(read low end torque) cam, or even a mild street cam.
