Wide tires need wider rims.

Well they do...

but unfortunately they come with a 5" back spacing which is what steered me away from them seeing as thats what the OEM wheels were, and caused me to rub on the control arms at full lock.

Shop around for awhile. There's lots of cool wheels out there.

On an 01 you may have problems with 15" wheels due to the dual piston caliber set up. Some people do, some people don't. I'm also assuming you don't feel like buying another set of tires on top of your new lift and wheels.

I had thought about going to 15" wheels for awhile for the sake of more sidewall, but found that almost all mud tires in the 15" wheel size were only class C weight rated, and in the 16" size I have my pick of D and E load rated (my current tires are E. I will probably never haul enough to totally utilize them in my 1500, but I dig overkill).

Plus 16" gives you a little room to upgrade your brakes, which you may seriously consider doing if you ever start doing serious engine modifications or putting large tires on your truck.

you got pictures of your truck...? im confused on the whole lift idea.

you have a 2.5 in spacer...dont like it...so going to a 3.5 in spindle...?

what about the rear?

you aure are going through alot of work for 285s.

i have 285/75 16s on a 2wd with a 1.5 in CSS and AALs.

plenty of room, and ill have to admit, they fit on the stock rim better than i thought they would.

I'm out of town right now, so no pictures unfortunately.

I don't like the spacer because the truck rides like **** because of it. It's like an extra 1500 lbs of tension on the coil that makes the ride really really rough. So I'm going to use a spindle and ditch the spacer, that way the factory geometry is retained, only the snout moves.

That's actually my plan, I'm doing spindles/wheels/tires all at once.

oh i thought with a 3 inch spindle lift you have to get 17in rims, and not to go with a diff ofset wheel more than stock because the spindle will more likely break

not trying to but a butt or nothing just lookin out for you

Different spindles require different things. According to the company that I'm buying from, I'm in good shape:

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm gonna go ahead and run the 16x7's. I got 60k out of my set of BFG's on OEM wheels.
