did you put loctite on the center pin and the u bolts?
and where did you get your add a leafs? i'm still waiting for mine from topguncustomz.

that avatar picture is a little distracting but it doesn't have anything on devilsreject's avatar. every time i read one of his posts i have trouble keeping my eyes on the text.

 

Thanks for the kudos, and if you haven't got them done, the leaf center bolt should be 5/16" diameter... 31 lbs if coarse thread and 35 lbs if a fine thread.
If its 3/8ths, 42 and 45...
I'll be looking forward to the pics as well.

 

They were Skyjacker add-a-leafs, and I'm sure I torqued them way tighter than 45 pounds. Probably closer to 100 pounds, but who really knows for sure. Either way they're in, and so are the U-bolts so I'm not worried about it. The front went much easier. All I had to do was unbolt and pull the shocks, and the sway bar, and jack the axel up on the opposite side to make it go down on the side I was working on. It was totally easy. Now if I'd have had like 5-7 inch lift springs, I could see myself running into problems there. Anyway the 1500 springs aren't really that coarse. You can compress them with your hands if you have to, but you really have to squeeze.

Given if I had to do it again the leafs would probably be easier now that I know what I'm doing, but I never had to deal with them before. I would however be interested to know what my new payload capacity is since that add-a-leaf is hella thick. It's like having another overload spring.

And I will post pictures tomorrow probably. It's suppose to me nice so I'll have time to shine the truck all up and take pictures. I'm not about to take pictures of the truck when it's dirty. Well maybe if I've been out wheeling, but certainly not with regular street dirt on it. That just looks tacky.

 

you calling my truck tacky? i haven't washed it since last year.

 

Always remember, just because new springs or additional overloads springs are installed, it does NOT mean your truck can necessarily haul more weight. Unless upgrades were made to the breaking system, frame strength, axle component strength, etc... the hauling capacity of the truck is still the same as it was when it left the assembly line, regardless if it doesn't "squat" as much anymore.

 

I was really just wondering out of curiosity, I really don't haul that much heavy stuff, nor was I going to attempt to "test" my new pay load

Actually upgrades were made to braking system, if GM-dually wheel cylinders count for anything (I know that's kinda weak)
