Help, car fires but will not start
#11
Ok, my manual says the normal fuel pressure should be 35-45 psi. Was your pressure in that range or close to it? Check your ASD relay, this relay shuts down the fuel pump if the PCM doesn't sense ignition info. Use a similar one in its place but do not use the fuel pump relay. If you need info on checking a relay let me know. When you pull the relay out, you should have battery voltage, whether key is on or off, in the socket that corresponds to pin 30 on the relay. The socket for pin 86 should have voltage only with the key on.
You need to determine if this is an ignition problem or a fuel problem. Next time you try to start and get the start stall issue, have your tools ready and remove a spark plug or two. Then with a helper trying to start the engine, check for a spark at those that you removed. Best way to check this is to remove plug, attach plug to plug wire and lay plug on metal surface that provides a good ground. This way you actually see what you plug is doing. Also, inspect you plug tip. Does it look like it is firing normal, is it oily, is it covered in black soot. etc. If you see any problem issue with the plugs remove and inspect all of them and see what you have.
If the ignition is good and firing you can eliminate it and move on to fuel or engine control sensors.
