Default Replacing 1998 Headlamp Switch with 2001?

My 1998 dodge 1500 headlamp switch bit the dust on me so i cut the harness and took the headlight switch out of a 2001. Now the wires are alot different and i'm having a hard time figuring out how i can wire it up. Anyone done this or can it be done?

im sure it could be done, but i think you would be better off to buy the proper switch.

I don't see how this can be worth it since a new switch is only $20-$25.

This is totally not worth the trouble, the 2001 switch is internally different, not just the wires. Some 2001's even have the foglite switch built in. 98's have a separate switch. Just looking for more trouble splicing wires, and you"ll end up frying the one you got for free anyway.

But who am I? It's your truck and your time.
