Default tranny questions

i've been having problems with my tranny lately, and was told that my shifting problems that i've been having might be due to the governor pressure solenoid. i believe thats the one right there in the tranny pan right? if it is, is there another name for it? i've been looking them up online to order and theres another name for it i believe, some people are calling them transmission kickdown solenoids. just curious if someone could clear things up for me.

i'm hoping this might be my problem, i DID change the fluid and filter earlier this year and maybe the wires have started chaffing like others have had done. if anyone has any suggestions, let me know. thanks!

I've only heard it referred to as the governor pressure solenoid. You want the GPS sensor too, if it's not all in one.

And if you have not already posted what your tranny is doing, maybe if you describe it , maybe someone here can help.

i don't want to call it slipping, but it kind of goes into nuetral between 2nd and 3rd. i either have to rev the engine to get it to go into 3rd, or let it drop in speed to shift back into 2nd. i'm really hoping its just this sensor, mainly because i don't have the money for a rebuild right now lol. what makes me think its this sensor is me changing the fluid earlier this year, and maybe like others have done, the wires are chaffing on the pan. or maybe just the sensor itself has gone bad. either way, when i do this, i plan on deleting the check valve as well...bunch of work ahead of me this weekend haha.
thanks for the help!

I certainly hope it works out fairly inexpensively for you. Why don't you go to a local trans rebuilder and get the parts, instead of getting them online?

NP bud, don't forget shipping charges online too, you know. Sometimes it pays to let your fingers do the walking, instead of the keyboard/web.

If its "wires chaffing in the pan" get ready for a major headache, I'm not going to sugar coat.
I'm in the process of changing the little solenoid harness that you see in the pan, lets just say its not a simple matter of pulling the old harness and putting in a new one, and be done in an hour.
You have to drop the valve body, to do that you have to disconnect the gear/throttle linkage ,, Its turned into a major pain, and I still ain't done with it.

As far as the governor, there is the governor solenoid and a pressure sensor.
Alot of folks tend to swap them in pairs.
I did a DIY writeup here
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...d-install.html

Are you throwing any codes concerning this ?
Not sure if I'd go throwing parts at it just yet, without any diagnosis.
Could be band adjustment, could be throttle linkage, a number of other things, or a combo of things.

Do yourself a favor, get out the yellow pages and call a hole in the wall tranny service shop, they will know exactly what you are talking about, and likely have the parts on hand much cheaper than you'd get at a parts store.
NAPA is the only place I found that can get them, they were about 100% more expensive than I ended up paying at a local tranny shop.

very true...

thanks for the info xray. i'll probably take it into the local tranny shop(they do a free diagnosis, SCORE!) and see what they say about it. hopefully its not gonna be a rebuild, if it is, screw it i'm getting a viper tranny

i was looking online at their website and was looking at the price difference between a Viper tranny and a jasper tranny, and for what PATC puts in theirs, its only a few hundred more dollars than a jasper.

both the soleniod and sensor are only like $100 shipped together from transmissionparts.com
You should be seeing a code if you take it to an autoparts store and have them plug it into the code reader.....thats how I diagnosed mine....but my symptoms were different...1741 code told me it was one of the two formentioned parts...they were easy to change and I never touched a tranny before in my life....(well not counting tractor gearboxes.

i havent been throwing any codes though, thats the weird thing. but its an obd1 computer, and a lot of stores like AZ and places dont have a reader that will do it. maybe thats why its not throwing a code either? because its an older system? idk...we'll find out.
