i machined one for free, but i still need to make bigger throttle plates so it isn't on my truck. the stock plates are 1.978" and i bored the TB out to 1.978, but the stock plates sit at a slight angle so they have a big enough gap for me to have an 1100 rpm idle, i guess the IAC can't compensate enough.
A 5.2 to 5.9 swap is not worth the work required. Its what... A 10hp gain?
The modifications/upgrades available for a 5.9 V8 are more numerous than a 5.2 V8. Plus, tuners can unlock more power out of the detuned "death flash" 5.9 then they can the detuned "death flash" 5.2, like Purpl stated. However, you do lose mileage.
A stroker kit might be better, as someone suggested, though.
The more free flowing exhaust the higher topend.
To a point. Make it to free flowing, and the air will begin to cool before it leaves the exhaust pipe. Pushing denser, cooler air out of the pipes is bad for an engine. Robs you of more power. This is the "backpressure" that people always mistakenly talk about. There is no backpressure in an exhaust system, it should be more accurately described as "air density."
