You make it sound so easy. Looks like the is a lot of work just to gain access to the TB with all the hoses and wires. I got a good look down into the TB this morning. Looked straight down thru butterflies. No pooling but the is definite oil residue. Still couldn't see the dist cap even when directly over everything.

it takes less than 10 mintues to take out the TB. and like ive mentioned looks can be decieving. i always checked through the butterflies and never saw pooling, but saw residue. when i actually took off the TB i saw the pooling. So chances are since theres residue its gone.

Its not really that hard to get to.When ever I do work on my truck I let the air out of the tires makes it alittle easier.
You should try changing a opti-spark.They put something that can't get wet behind a water pump.

i just changed my plugs, wires, cap and rotor button today. i really didnt think it was all that bad. just took the air cleaner off and it was right there. i didnt have any problems getting to them. when i took my old wires off the plugs i numbered them and then left them on the old cap. so once i got all my old wires unpluged i just unbolted the cap and pulled it out wires and all. then just looked at my new cap and put my new wires on it the way the old ones were on it and stuck it back in there without any problems. maybe took me an 45 mins tops

when doing the wires and distr. cap. draw yourself a picture of the dist. cap. and prongs on it. and mark which wire goes to which one. its the easiest way because its very easy to mis-route these

Buy a BOOOOK if you don't already have one. You guys really pull the TB? I am with big red, which by the way is still a DAMN fine dodge, I have replaced my junk a couple of times, with the air cleaner out it is cake, in mine anyway. But what do I know all I run is my mouth.

Just did my cap and rotor on the same year and engine you have. I didn't take anything off except the air intake (mine is stock, take it out completely, including the tube to the engine side wall.)

I can sit (painfully) in the left side of the engine compartment.

You can't see anything down where the distributor is, you just have to feel to loosen the two screws on the cap (the screws don't come all the way out.)

I was able to lift the old cap up, with plug wires still attached. Pulled off the center ignition coil wire to make things easier. Held the new cap up next to it and carefully moved the wires, one at a time, from the old cap to the new cap. Hard to mess it up, that way. Just make sure to look at the new cap real close to make sure you've got it turned to match the old cap (and to make sure the parts store gave you the right part.)

With all the wires off the old cap, toss it over your shoulder. Swap out the rotor (watch which way it comes out so you put the new one in the same.)

Hardest part for me was getting the new cap to seat properly. There are two tabs on each side (one square, one round) that must fit into bosses on the distributor. Just have to feel for it, and make sure no vacuum lines or other crap got in the way. Then tighten the two screws.

10 minutes, start to finish. You'll want to ask the GF or wife for a back rub afterwards...

I am with you, I had to put my dizzy back together in some wierdo church parking lot, and I think I yelled verbatim "Who the F ever designed this? I wish I could knock his or her teeth out".

Hands down the looks of these trucks are appealing, inside and out, but they were designed on a Friday at 4:30 I swear. Working on my Chevy(s) were a breeze, beyond the fact that I mostly turned the key on those, Im under the hood on this junk every other day it seems.
