Hi Everyone. I am a newbie and would like to thank you all for all your helpful suggestions. I have a 2001 ram truck v-6 and I would like to add a cruise control to it. Anyone has any idea as to how to go about it. Where to buy the necessary parts and is it a DIY type job. Thanks again

 

well first off welcome to the site, as far as under the hood type cruise control stff, im sure you could go to the junkyard, and pick up the cruise control servo, which will be under the battery tray. as far as everythign else, i dont know, maybe someone else can help you a bit more.

i though about this as well, though creating my own custom switches.

 

Yeah, it's DIY if you're comfortable with tapping into the Tach & Vehicle Speed Sensor circuits. Check out Summit Racing for Rostra kits which have pretty decent installation manuals.

I imagine it can be done. It looks very complex to me. You have to tap into the PCM. You have to, maybe, change the brake switch to accept the CC circuit.

Do your research carefully before starting the project. Find a Haynes manual and look at the PCM schematic. It shows how the circuit runs and how the brake switch is wired. The hardware is easy. The wiring is another matter.

Attached are some diagrams that shows what you have to do for a factory type install.

 

If you want to go with factory parts, besides the vacuum lines and under hood controls for the cruise, you also have to get the steering column. Aftermarket kits like Rostra usually are an easier way to go. The are electrically controlled,as oppose to OEM stuff that is vacuum/electrical.

 

Buy a hand throttle.

I would be content just to get my factory cruise working again myself...

 

About 7 actually, I did not start drinking till about 4am, mainly because I got tired of seeing the 12 pack in my fridge when ever I thought food would appear in there.

 

Thanks for all your inputs.I now have a better idea as to what I am up against. JackJ's suggestion may be the easiest way to do this I just do not know how it may look and operate installed, I will wait until he is sober to explain the hand throttle a little better. Thanks again
