Angry wont start

well the dodge gods saw fit to f me over again, and now my truck wont start. I have a 99 with a 318 and 117,000ish miles, and it was running great all day. I drove home from work, and right as i pull in my driveway the gas light comes on. about an hour ago i decide to go put gas in it because i have work first thing in the morning, so this would save me time. all it will do is turn over. i figure ok maybe all i need to do is put some gas in it, so i take a gas can and my parents car and go to a gas station and fill the can up. I put it in my truck and still the same thing, so i figure that because my driveway is on a hill all the gas ran to the back of the tank, and i need to roll it to a flat spot. I put the truck in neutral and roll it to a flat spot and let the tank settle. The gauge reads 1/4 of a tank and still wont start. I turned the engine over and pumped the gas and it will run as long as i pump the pedal. I got it to run long enough to get it back in my drive way, but still it wont idle unless you keep on the gas.

This truck is my life line. Without it i cant get to school or work, i have work first thing tomorrow and then classes. I am freaking out because i have no money, and now no way to get to work or school. any help would GREATLY APPRECIATED.

EDIT:
I can hear the fuel pump kick in, so i dont think its that, and also the plugs and wires have about 3,000ish miles on them

I'm just shooting at the moon, but try removing your IAC and cleaning that off. That's the first thing that comes to mind since it's an idle issue. Good luck though!!!

check all your wires to see if any of them fell down and are shorting out on your manifolds thats what happined to me. also try taping on your crankshaft postioning sencer. they are know for going bad and leaveing you for dead. if it starts up after you tape on it that just means its bad and going to leave you set in a different spot. hope this helps

if you can hear your fuel pump clicking and your getting fuel to your engine then the only thing stopping your truck from running correctly is its not getting enough air or proper spark. My buddy has a 97 ram that had similar problems and finally it just plain quit running while he was driving and it was the fuel pump that went bad on his truck. A trick that may or may not work would be to tap on the fuel tank and not just little taps get something with a long handle and give it a few good wacks!!! see if that helps sometimes it'll get the vehicle running cuz the fuel pump unsticks. HOWEVER if that is your problem you need to get your fuel pump replaced asap cuz it will do it again.

To see if your getting fuel to the engine check on the fuel rail where your injectors are connected to on the drivers side of the truck, there should be a test port. You can either plumb a fuel pressure guage into this test port or just press on the shraeder valve to see if fuel is getting to your engine. Have a rag near the valve when you depress it. BEWARE fuel should come out and be careful not to get it everywhere. I wouldn't want to see your truck go up in flames.

If your truck is getting fuel then you can move on to assuming something wrong with the ignition system. Check to make sure your ignition wire is connected to both your coil and the distributor. If you have time i would check to make sure that the connectors on the inside of your distributor and also the contact on your rotor are not wore out or coroded. Then check plugs and wires...even though there new maybe one fouled out although this is highly unlikely. Also besure your engine is getting proper air. Maybe check your MAF sensor too and like someone meantioned previously your IAC sensor which are both on the throttle body. Hopefully one of these helps you out.

One question too is your check engine light on?

this happened to my buddy a couple days ago. im not trying to mess around, but jump on the tailgate. he had rust in his tank and it plugge up the fuel pump. (always would hear it come on but would just crank)

so jump on the tailgate pretty hard so you know stuff is moving around and see if that does anything.
