DIY plenum fix ??
the plenum being blown allows oil to enter the intake manifold, causing the plugs to foul, kill o2 sensors, clog up the cat, cuase horrible performace, burn oil, and give very poor gas milage.
its the fact that its aluminum to steel, so with the temps geting very hot, the metals expand differently. causing the pressure to eventually blow out the gasket.
Your best best is to go with the Hughes Plenum Reienforcment Kit. This will totally eliminate the plenum for good. and give you better performance than stock. (i have it and it does give you better power)
All in all its not a hard job to do. it took me 18 hours, including 6-7 of cleaning stuff up. and 2 hours of BSing because when i put it back together, my fuel injecotr o-rings were leaking, and i wired up the plug wires wrong on the dist. cap.
So it is a fairly easy job, takes basic tools, all you need for specialty tools is a fuel line disconnect. but you will noticed a hell of a difference.
YES YES YES it will benifit. but at the same time you should change Dist. cap/rotor, plugs/wires, 02 sensors. and gut the cat or buy a new one. your truck will thank you.
Also you will need Intake gaskets, and bolts for the intake bolts are TTY (torque to yeild.) Fromhughes you can get gaskets and bolts for about 45 bucks. Go anywhere else the Bolts alone are 50.
Hughes Plate- 86.00
Hughes Intake Gaskets/Bolt- 45.00
Dist. cap/Rotor- around 25.00
CAT (if you want performance from summit) 222.69
and thes rest is whatever you want to get.
