Default Lowering my 96 Dodge Ram.......4x4 :(

I know, I know, its a 4x4, but I never go off road. I kinda fell into the possession of this truck and I hate how high it is. My wife and kid have a hell of a time getting in it.

The only time Ive used the 4x4, is in the winter, on the road, so me dropping this truck will not hurt my usefulness of it.

Is there any way possible to lower this truck? 2"-6" drop would be great.

Please don't flame me about the 4x4 part, I forgot my fire suit lol

Thanks guys

If done right I have seen some 4x's look real good slammed, but why not trade it for a 2wd, it will be a hell of alot easier finding lowering parts for it I would think.

Surf google for pics of lowered rams, most of those will take you to a cardomain page or something similar, thise guys will list what parts they used, and to give you an idea of what you are looking for.

you are going to be limited on how much you can lower the truck because of the front diff. the 2wds have IFS so all they have to worry about is an alignment and tire clearance. You need to measure the distance between the diff and the chassis at the closest point, that will determine how low you can go. Remember, you will need to leave some room for suspension bind.

Other than the clearance issue, its just like lifting the truck... just backwards. As the front end moves up the control arms will push it forward and the trackbar will push it to the right side. you will need to compensate for all this.

the rear will be just like a 2wd. If you decide to do this, post some pics. this is the type of stuff i really like to do. keep us posted.

It looks about as high as yours, give or take an inch because of the tires.

I cant get rid of the this truck because my Grandfather left me this truck before he passed and the title is nowhere to be found, so I figured Id just insure it and keep it.

I dont want it so low it bottoms out, I just want it low enough to be more comfortable when my family is in it.

Id be more than happy if I could get it sitting like this

You wont be able to lower the truck that much, the diff housing will hit the chassis before you get that low.

how about just take off the front drive shaft swap out the front end for a 2wd unit and keep the rear as is and lower it like you want to

that would require some extensive fabrication. the 2wds use IFS and the 4wd dont have the mounting brackets for the control arms.
