Default Can i swap an engine from a 95 jeep cherokee into a 98 dodge ram 1500?

I just recently bought a 98 dodge ram from a fellow to find I was decived and the engine has a blown head gasket. This has always been my ideal truck and do not wish to scrap it, so I would like to swap out the engine and i have a 318 5.2 v8 out of a 95 jeep grand cherokee. Will this be a compatible swap? Please any help here would be greatly appreciated!

It will, but you'll want to swap the intake manifold and a few other sensors. Is the other motor beyond just fixing the blown headgasket?

Default engine swap

it currently runs and drives, not even sure what is wrong with it for sure, was loosing water and alot of white smoke from the exhaust,at one point if driven any distance and then had to sit in traffic for a while idleing it would lose oil pressure until i dropped it into nutruel, and the oil pressure guage would go back up and i would continue to drive so i could get it home. I poured in a gasket sealer into the radiator and i stopped loosing water.

I have been led to believe white smoke and water out the exhaust was blown head gasket though, that is why im asking, plus it has 300000 kilometers on the engine as well. I would prefer to swap it with the newer fresher engine out of the jeep if it would fit

It will fit no problem, you'll just have to do what I already stated.

No problem. The 95 is OBD1 and probably also has an egr on it. The 98 is obd2 with no egr. Which is why you have to swap the manifold and a few other sensors. Also do a search here for "plenum" , for info on that and replacing the lower plate on it while you have it apart. And btw, we are talking about two 318's with auto tranny's correct?

If its just a head gasket replace it, it will be easier than a motor swap.

+1 on that. Why go through the trouble and expense of an engine swap for something as minor as a head gasket?
