moparama- Your right it is the 5.2 that was a typo, my mistake.

Where do you guys recommend I look for a replacement engine?
Would a Dodge dealer be able to help with that?

are the engine mounts the same on the 5.2 and 5.9?

yes, the only difference between the two, is the 318 is internally balanced, 360 external, and the overall block (cubic inch)

so yes they will bolt up, and tranny will fit as well.

Default Broken Rod Options

My son's 1998 Ram 1500 5.2L broke a rod about 5 months after he bought it. I am checking into what I can do with it.
Why not rebuild, if the camshaft is OK? Kit with new pistons, rods, gaskets, bearings, & seals is about $500......Thanks for the help/info.

Try carjunky.com they sell motors both long and short blocks. I would lookup the prices for you but for some reason the site seems to be down right now.
