torque converters became neutral balance in '96

im confused as to why members are advising against a reman... there are no brand new 360's lying around, a reman with a good warranty will be your best bet

Go to a junkyard that has a bunch of Dodge rams, durangos, dakotas. They all have the 5.9L/5.2L magnum engine. They will probably swap an engine out with yours and charge you about 750 dollars. That is what i was quoted at once.

See if you can find a COLLISION truck. They usually have low miles and the reason they were junked was because it was totaled. I saw some good engines in collision rams and dakotas.

It would be much better to just call around and find junkyards. Have a look at the yard and pick your truck/engine. They are easy swaps. ust make sure you get the right engone. You said 5.7L but 1999 did not have 5.7L engiones. it was 5.2 or 5.9. Be sure to get the correct size engine.
