Default Broken rod?

Hi guys, I bought a Ram last week and decided to join the forum.
Its a '99 Ram 1500, 4x2, 5.7L Magnum, all stock.

The truck already broke down on me tho. On my way back from the grocery store (had to get a new SunPass), the oil pressure drop to zero and the engine sounded like a bunch of metal was just bouncing around inside it. I pulled to the side of the road and shut her off. The engine felt as if it was gonna shack the whole truck apart. I had it towed home and my neighbor came over and we tried to start it again. He said it sounded like a broken rod. I jacked the truck up and got underneath it and noticed something has gone through my oil pan from the inside.

Should i try to repair all of this? Or is it just time for a new engine?

This is a crappy phone picture of the oil pan. You can see whatever went thru it sticking out of the left side.

yea when you get problems like rods or anything, its time for new motor IMO. unless you want to get the bottom end re-done....which would probably be more then buying a used engine.

Damn that's some bad luck! These bottom ends are pretty damn stout..

Time for a new motor, it's likely the block is trashed.

this is true but the chances of finding a low milage engine for these trucks is slim to none. and if your gonna go through the hassle of changing it may as well be new. ive seen then for as low as 1500 + core. IMO i dont trust remans just for the simple fact they are very leiniant on there tolerances and may not be getting the best for your money.

if you get a used motor. check the plenum, and see if theres cracked heads,

heres a good place in case you cannot get a new motor
