Great work man, its cool to see custom work like that, makes me want to build one come spring time. It would be nice to get a front tow point.

That looks good! Its always best to build your own stuff. As long as the welds are strong it will last.

I built my own front hitch too. About a year ago. Now finally I bought my winch to plug it into. Worked out perfectly.

 

I always wondered if you could cut 2 hitches apart from the junk yard and rig something up so they would poke though the 2 holes in the front bumper. Hmmm

 

it is probably quite possible. some 1/8" plate steel to weld to the front of the crossmember that is behind those holes along with some 2" square tubing to weld along the top of it with a reciever tube on each end. shaped like this l___l and have a support leg welded to the side of each tube for extra strength.

 

Hmmm, the diagram showed it coming out where the air dam is, all you gotta do is cut a hole in it and seein as how i don't have an air dam i get to cut out a step. 9000lb should be ok for my application. I don't do serious off roadin but it's nice to have if ever I need help gettin out of a tight spot or someone else is in need.

 

i'm not saying that the draw tite is a bad one, i'm just saying that it isn't for me. i would rather have the hitch as high up as i can get it. and a 6000lb truck can approach 9000lb when you get door deep in some tacky mud and you're dragging both axles and the entire frame in the stuff.

 

ah...well I wish I had somethin this mornin. Slid off the road and into a ditch and had a helluva time gettin out. I'll post some pics later.

if you look above the back of the hitch in my picture you can just barely see the peeled out metal from the last time i had to get pulled from the front and the hook on the chain really bit into it. that is what made me really want a front hitch.

 

i made a thread. they're in there. i'm really thinkin about doing something. either the hitch or tow hooks from mopar just in case something like that happens again
