I am one to buy stock/factory parts as well, but there obviously sure isn't anything special about the factory heater core, so why buy another one... especially at that price!
Anyway, have fun with the project! Nothing like some good quality father/son time!

RockAuto sells a direct OE match, Copper/Brass with the foam wrapped around it. That's where I got mine. If anyone doesn't think it makes a difference, then they haven't seen the cheap, aluminum universal replacement that sells for half. Total garbage.

Same here. I must be missing something because I wanted to pull the whole dash, but something kept hanging up. Granted mine is a 1997, but it's still a PITA.
Note - Ever since I replaced my heater core, my dash has started cracking like thin ice on a pond in the spring. Rather than buy some POS stick-on cover, I'm thinking of making my own out of fiberglass. I subscribe to an auto restoration magazine (Auto Restorer) where a recent article details how to make your own dash. If I do make my own, I'll post up pics and a write-up for you freaks.
a pos stick on cover would make a good mold for a fiberglass dash because i doubt you can get yours out in one piece. unless you use the resin to seal the cracks before you attempt removal. mine snapped with about as much effort as it takes to snap a dorito. you could take a 1" by 1" piece and snap it in half easily. now thats some high quality mopar engineering.

That is exactly what my dad said. Now, what brand was that heater core? There was one that had a picture; it was aluminum, and another that didnt have a picture. We just broke down and bought the Mopar one.
