Alright so before I get yelled at again I hope this is a descriptive enough thread title. I also searched and could find what I was looking for so im starting a new thread. Anyways I took my truck in 2 weeks ago cause I had an oil leak. Well my mechanic put in a new crank seal. Well that seemed to do the trick untill today I noticed oil under my truck again. Sure enough I get under my truck and it looks like the oil is coming from the harmonic balancer dripping to the crossmember that runs under the motor and then hitting the ground. So does the harmonic balancer have anything to do with the oil leak or did the mechanic not put the crank seal in right.
5.2 or 5.9 engine? I hate to assume, but since you don't mention it and did mention the balancer I am gonna go with you have a 5.9 . Sounds like either the crank seal went bad or was not installed properly. But check to make sure its not a leak from some other place dripping down.
5.9 or 5.2 both have same type of seal behind HB. And if i remember correctly i think part of it slides into seal. so either he put seal in wrong or didnt clean any rough spots or crud off HB before putting back together.
Yeah sorry I forgot to mention it is a 5.9. Im pretty sure the leak isnt dripping from above anywere. Atleast there was nothing that I saw. And It took 2 weeks before it started leaking again but now its constant. If it was installed wrong would it have started leaking right away? But I called the shop today and they told me to bring it back in on friday.
