Default 2nd Gen Vs 3rd gen

Ok, I know I am probably going to get yelled at for not using the search option but I did and did not yield the results I wanted.

I am looking to get another truck. I currently have a 2000 1500 w/offroad package. I would like to get a newer 04-06ish 2500. I know that the 2nd gen have had there tranny issues and plenum gaskets. I am looking to know what I might be gettting into if I decide to get one of these trucks.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I dont know how much help your gonna get here. Im not trying to sound like a smart @ss but you'll probably get better results if you would of posted this in the 3rd or 4th gen forum. But then again I didnt check if you did. But If you didnt I would start there

i believe the 3rd gen still have the tranny/plenum issues as the 2nd gens do

put it this way, a guy i work with has a 05 5.7 Hemi 2500. it has 64K. it already has a new motor, the rear end is shot, and his tranny is slipping. so you be the judge...

That is all based on how you drive the truck. Granted, 64K isn't that much, but a lot of abuse can be done during that time.

i don't know. you may just have to camp out over in 3rd gen and read their posts and see what the complaints are. i think the MDS draws a lot of complaints. you might want to consider getting/not getting that feature.

Then again...1 year of plowing "WRONG"...spinning the sh** out of yer wheels means yer reving the sh** out of your engine and probably killing the trans at the same time. (even if only abused a few times...wear and tear..). It only takes "ONCE" to blow!
