Unhappy Tranny Experts chime in please.

I think My tranny has finialy pucked. Long story made short my truck was what some others have reported not shifting past first gear the first time driving every day. Then it just acting fine fore a few months. Then for the past 2 years it under light acceration it would wander back and fourth between 1st and 2nd. Now it takes off in second never shifts to first, unless you put the shifter in first it drags the truck to a stop like the brakes are on. Now 1 last thing is that if you put the peddel to the metal the truck cut out on rev limter befor it shifts i just took my foot out of it and then it will shift. I have spent hrs. looking at the tranny forums.
98 ram 4x4 318 re46 trans Input would be good because I plan on rebuilding it.

Burnt smell is a BAD sign.... I'm afraid it IS rebuild time my friend. If this had just started happening,..I'd suggest a few fixes..but as you said,..a few YEARS! with shifting problems. REBUILD IT ..you'll love your truck more.

I don't know why people like putting Lucas Tranny additive in there truck. All it does is hide the problem...it's still there. Some shop's won't rebuild tranny's that have that stuff in it because it's so thick and sticky. It's a real pain in the a$$ to clean out.

I would say check for codes could be just a sensor or something. My truck wouldn't shift out of first gear either and it was less than $20 for a transmission speed sensor and fixed it.

I talked to the person I got the truck from, and he said 6 months before I got it He had the tranny rebuilt. It cost him $675.00 ((I think thats to cheap)) and it had shifting problems right from the get go and had to take it back and then seamed fine after words. I think the guy that rebuilt screwed it up.

If it's taking off in second, the governor pressure sensor and solenoid are bad. They are on the valve body, not hard to change.
