Decided to take my truck out today to get some firewood out at a place we go mudding but ran into trouble. I decided to make sure my 4x worked before i went out and bam. I was rolling at about 5-10 mps, put my truck into neutral and tried to shift into 4H. The shifter would not move at all. So i decided to try 4LO and it worked but it was very difficult to shift back into 2hi. and instead of my shifter moving straight it moved to the right when i got it back in 2hi.

oh and I do know the proper way to transition into 4x so it doesnt have anything to do with that.

 

you may have a different 4x shifter than me, but you have to get it into 4h before 4l on mine, so how did you get it to 4l without going into 4h because you said you couldnt get it into 4h?

different transfer cases...thats whats likely screwed up....I had similiar issues when my motor mount broke in my jeep and the drivetrain shifted...

pull back again 4L



sounds weird but mine is not a straight back and forth shifter

 

yea 95ram360 i believe that in 99 the 4x shifter layout was changed my 97 is like your but my old 99 was like vmann's

 

so any ideas what it could be?

 

have you tried going in rverse 10 feet, put truck in neutral then try shifting it? could be the pinion that engages it is locked or somthing...sorry i couldnt be more help since i dont have your style shifter/may be different set up in general

 

dont go down tha road to shift in to 4wd its not shift on tha fly ya know
