Default Audio ???'s

I've tried searching for ideas, but can't find anything that I need. I want a new sound system, but I don't want anything that rattles the windows of every house on the block. I want something loud though. I want to replace the front and rear speakers and add sub(s). Also a new HU. I also want to do everything properly with correct wiring.

I'm not to educated on car audio so any help would be appreciated. I do have some questions. What are caps? and what all do I need?

Also could anyone out there possibly setup a parts list with links that I could look at.

Thanks in advanced.

Well Before you change out everything, Just go with a headunit first. I got a Dual XHD 7714 Its kick a$$ it blows the infinity out of the water. Its a 140$ at walmart. Easily worth 300$
Then you would prob want some kicker comps, With a 300wt amp. That would prob do everything and more of what you want. Besides the door speakers. Im fixing to change mine too.

I agree with the kicker plan for subs. I had 1 10" Comp VR in my previous ex cab F-150 and it rocked! You dont need much in a truck. As for the head unit, I wouldnt waste my money on Dual. You get what you pay for. 9 times out of 10, you spend that $140 on something cheap, and get cheap ****...then a few months down the road, you end up buying the Alpine or brand name unit. I have run Alpine, Kenwood and Sony. So far, Alpine has blown everything out of the water as far as sound quality, durability, everything...

Thats my .02 Only what I have learned.

Also keep in mind...that Infinity is only a stock system thats probably 10 years old. Most stock units are meant for basic sound (i.e. slide the lever up for more bass) vs an aftermarket deck that will let you fine tune your speakers, which can make a night and day difference on stock speakers.

Well i see your point on dual, But damn. Its a very nice system and It sounds great. I got a 1 year warrenty for 10$ too. So if it f*cks up a year from now. Haha, new one.

Btw, The square subs hit a hell of a lot harder than round ones.

I sold and installed car audio for 10 years beforecircuit city f'ed me and let me go then went out of business. LOL Anyway....you asked about a cap. Caps are used to supply and audo system with constant voltage. A batteries charge goes up and down as where a cap charges in a second and has no power fluctuation. Really only needed for high power amps. Second....Dual is infact garbage. lblair is correct on Alpine, Kenwood (excelon series) and ive had good luck with Pioneer HU's. Im not a big fan of sony. I love infinity reference series speakers ive owned many pair in several cars ive had and they have an awesome sound. If you need help or any other Q's let me know. I wont steer you wrong on this topic.

Sure get a Dual. Only if you want to deal with internals smoking themselves out in under a year.

The good old fashioned standby is always Pioneer. Wile I don't endorse Dual, I will say that all H/Us are becoming better built, so focus mainly on what you can navigate the best on.

General brands I try to stay away from:
H/U

Dual
Sony/Awaia
JVC
Kenwood

Speakers:
Pioneer
Kenwood
LVC
Dual
Sony

Brands I've used and will continue to use as long as they work like they are supposed to:

Infinity
Eclipse
Pioneer- H/U ONLY
Alpine
Kicker
Kenwood- Amps only
Power Akousitcs

Now, if you want a clear sounding system, take a look at these links. Keep in mind, this is just a general system, and what one person thinks sounds the best, might not sound the same to another person.

H/U- http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130P310...B.html?tp=5684

On the front speakers, you have some options. You can keep the factory size at 6X9 (oblong) or switch to a 6 1/2" round speaker. Personally, I don't like the mids round speakers produce, so I opted to keep the 6X9 size in the door. I'll show you both though.

Front speakers 6X9-
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500SPS6...609.html?tp=91
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1089632...howAll=N&tp=91
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1089633...howAll=N&tp=91
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB69...howAll=N&tp=91

Front Speakers 6 1/2"-
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1086022...22i.html?tp=95
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500SPS6...600.html?tp=95
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB65...51s.html?tp=95

Now, on the rears, you can fit either 5 1/2" speakers with no modification, or you can put in 6 1/2" Personally, I don't think it's worth the trouble to install the larger round considering the modifications you have to do to make it fit right. I don't like grinding or drilling holes in my truck.

For the 5 1/2", just go back and look at the same brands under the new size and you'll have them.

I generally don't like to mix and match, so if you were thinking about that, I wouldn't do it.

If you want an amp, just let me know and I'll take a look, but from the sound of your post, I don't think you really want/need one, so I skipped it. What I've compiled alone will be almost enough to run ya out of the cab.

In case you were wondering, my 1997 5.2 single cab has the following in it:
4 Infinity Kappa Perfect 6X9's- Fronts and under seats
2 Infinity Kappa 6 1/2"- Rears
2 Eclipse 500W 10" woofers- Behind the seats- Storage boxes removed
1 Kenwood 1000W Amp- Powering woofers
1 Eclipse 800W Amp- Powering the 6X9's.
1. Pioneer H/U- I forget the model

I see Moparama has gotten in on this before me, and we pretty much echoed. LOL

Ehh, Dual, walmart. Yea I see your point. But its ok, It works, It sounds better. Im cool with it. Also. I was looking on crutchfield about the speakers in my ram, I put in exactly what i had and they only show fronts and rears, Theres another front speaker too right? Right beside the arm rest? And how do i get the rear speakers out? I tried taking screws out and it wouldnt budge, Do I have to remove the big seat belt bolt?

Thanks,
Cheat.

Here's my system:
Sony MEX-BT3700U w/built-in Bluetooth and MP3/WMA capability
Sony HD radio tuner
Sony 10-disc CD changer w/MP3 capability
Crunch GPV1600.4 Amplifier (200WX4 @4 ohms)
Alpine SPS-600C 6.5" component speakers with tweeters (Front)
Alpine SPS-500 5.25" coaxial speakers (Rear)
PAC Audio steering wheel controls interface

My front and rear doors are completely lined with Dynamat and sprayed with undercoating for sound deadening. No subwoofer, but my system kicks ***. The built-in Bluetooth is great. My phone pairs with the car radio as soon as I start the truck and automatically routes calls to the speakers or I can play music from my phone and control it with the radio like an iPod. I make MP3 discs and put them in the changer. I have discs with the equivalent of 6-8 albums worth of music on one disc, so I can go with enough music to listen to for a week without changing discs. The HD radio is cool, too, but only good in the city where the weaker signals can be received. Out in the boonies they are hard to come by. I can add satellite radio, but I don't want to pay for the subscription. There's a front USB port for playing MP3s on thumbdrives, and an AUX minijack for connecting an iPod or other device with a 3.5mm stereo jack. I have about $1000 invested, but it was well worth it for the incredible improvement over the Infinity system it came with.
