Default Confused on Power Steering fluid choice

So, I have almost 75K on my Dodge, and its about time to flush the original PS fluid. I have seen where people say you must use ATF+4, and seen people that say if you use ATF it will mess up your pump. So my question is, when I go to the parts store, what should I buy?

............get into your manual....look up the fluid type for your power steering. if its not in there, get a haynes or chiltons manual and it will say in there.

Thank you very much Sheriff. That is the answer I was looking for. The walkthrough is inaccurate, because it is done on an 03 Ram, with a PS cooler, so do I need to just disconnect the line in the back of the pump and flush it out?

i would not. instead, buy a quart of power steering fluid and a turkey baster. walmart has a very very nice baster for about $7, but you really don't need a martha stewart style baster if you can find one cheaper. with a bucket handy and engine off, remove the cap from the reservoir and suck out as much fluid as you can from the deepest edge you can reach. refill, start truck, and drive around the block turning the wheel a lot. repeat. that'll pretty much use up your quart of fluid and will be as good as is needed.

removing the line from the reservoir just runs the risk of crossed threads and it only drains the reservoir, not the box. it makes a huge mess. it also might lead you to crank the engine for a super flush and run the pump dry, which is fatal to the pump...

turkey baster is clean and foolproof.

it isn't clean for the baster. but yeah, that's a good way. it probably wouldn't hurt to do it twice for good measure.

Might not hurt to throw a bottle of gunk in there for the seals. Mine was leaking and I did the baster thing added the gunk no more leaks. It needs to be re-treaded.

No it doesnt, go re-read your service manual. DO NOT PUT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID IN YOUR POWER STEERING SYSTEM.

Your truck takes Mopar MS 5931.

"Might not hurt" Well, it hurt mine! I need to do another flush with MS 5931.
